Do families get to sit together on a plane?

When you have planned a journey with family and friends and started to make preparations for the same, there is no doubt that it requires a lot of details, and you should be well informed about them for a better flight experience. One of the main concerns remains related to the seats, as no one wants to sit away from their people and always prefers to stay together throughout the flight. This facility is not provided by all the airlines without any requests, some let you sit with the family; terms and conditions apply. You always have to go through the seat selection and pick the seats you want.  The airline provides a seat assignment, which is available free of cost, but that does not give the surety that you will be able to sit with your family. The Airline provides seats randomly, and your seat could be anywhere. However, what else can you do about this? We are going to discuss how you can sit with your family during the flight.

Which airlines guarantee families will sit together?

As per the resources, there are only four airlines until now that provide fee-free seating with families. You do not have to go through any time-consuming process and pay any amount for this. All these airlines will provide this service free of charge. We have mentioned these airlines below with some other details that will make things convenient and quick for you:

  1. American Airlines: The airline gives the guarantee that 16 years and younger than this age will be seated with their parents or guardians. If you bought the Fliers or Basic Economy seats, the charges for them would be required, but the young kids would not be asked to sit without their parents even without them paying the extra amount.
  2. Frontier Airlines: This is already a low-cost airline that provides the best services, and they have recently made some changes to their seating policy as 13-year-old kids and below that age will be permitted to sit with their parents or guardians without any extra charges.
  3. Alaska Airlines: Seat selection with the airline will not be free of cost, but they assure that 13-year-old kids will not sit without their parents. They will be accompanied by at least one guardian.
  4. JetBlue Airlines: This is one of the major and first airlines that included fee-free family seating. The Airline will auto-seat the children aged 13 and let them sit with any of their parents or guardians.

What is fee-free family airplane seating?

It simply means that the airline is permitting the children to sit with their family members, and they do not have to sit alone throughout the flight. Normally, people have to pay an additional cost for this service, as the seat selection is not. The airline assigns seats on its own, and for that, no charges will be required, but if you are selecting a seat with the airline, then you have to pay the seat selection cost. If you have more queries about this, you can connect with the customer service of the airline and collect the required details.

What are family seating policies on other airlines?

We have gone through the airlines that provide seating with parents; let us have a look at other airlines:

  • Allegiant Airlines does not guarantee you seating with the family and may charge around $80 for the seat selection.
  • Southwest Airlines has onboard seating; they have made groups A, B, C, D, and others.
  • Delta performs this action upon request, and it depends on the availability.
  • Spirit Airlines does not have any seat selection policy, and its charges range from $5 to $40.
